Your mention of Acts 19 is insightful, but I think it actually undermines your position somewhat since there’s no evidence that Paul made those guys get baptized again. I’m even a Southern Baptist.

When baptism was tied to citizenship via church records, I suppose not being sprinkled was seen as sedition.

I was sprinkled as a baby, dunked as an adult and am now a paedobaptist. The reason that I asked is that I’ve come to much the same view. Although, I then think of Calvin and other Reformers’ denunciations of anabaptism and wonder if I’m missing something.

Good question. I guess it depends on how much you want to attend that church, if you have a choice. If it were me, I would see it as a good opportunity to testify to my faith.

I would make it plain to the pastor that I didn’t think it was necessary. It would then be even more of a demonstration of submission to authority, and a blessing to the witnesses. I’ve been sprinkled once and dunked twice – the last time just to keep people happy.

I understand that you are a credobaptist… Do you think a convinced paedobaptist in such a church should put himself up for baptism, against his conscience?
