I follow the views of Warren Gage and James Jordan on this matter. Joseph&#039;s patient suffering (and God&#039;s Spirit) gave him great wisdom. He then tested his brothers to gauge their reactions to trials. He wished to see if they had changed. See: http://www.bullartistry.com.au/wp/2009/11/26/josephs-dysfunctional-family/  Of course, Greater Joseph did the same with the brothers who betrayed Him in the first century. Those whose hearts were cut at Pentecost were those who dined with Him in the kingdom.]]></description>

Joseph, like most of the other Patriarchs was an emotionally damaged individual. It took God to do a mighty work in him to help Jospeh forgive his brothers and hence allow Jospeh to play his part in the continuation of the Abrahamic blessing.
