You mentioned Paul’s warning to the Roman Christians, and I have often wondered at the arrogance of modern evangelicalism even in light of Paul’s warning in Romans chp.11 where he warns of the possibility of our branch being cut off! I really don’t think we take that seriously. We do not look at the Old Testament church (Israel) and God’s dealings with her and see it as having any relevance to the NT church. We do not see her failures as real warnings because we have figured out God’s program for the NT Church, and its glorious. In many ways we are just like OT Israel thinking because of who we are nothing can really happen to us.
