Nice! I’ll have to consciously develop this skill.

I also appreciate your defense of my life work. I’ve heard many admiration-filled narratives of first-wave missionaries who persevere their entire lives for the sake of one convert, if even that. Sadly, home educators get judged for doing essentially the same thing.

Incidentally, my adult home-educated kids are far more publicly vocal about their faith in Jesus than I was prepared to be after surviving the public school chipper.

I hope God is using your comments to change your friend’s mind.

Thanks Valerie – good thinking, but that’s outside the bounds of what we are actually told, so we could also speculate that, since none of the sons-in-law were in the crowd, these were men who already had it in for Lot and did not move in his circles. Also, if someone did know his situation, they might have surmised that the daughters were indeed in the house at that time, or been so appalled at the offer that they simply joined the mob in attacking the house to grab the angelic “spies.” Plus, the same could be said of Abram’s ruse with Sarai. Remember that Abimelech was saved from judgment because he realised that Isaac and Rebekah were an item. But overall, I think that a solution which accords with the New Testament’s appraisal of Lot is one to be favored.

Thanks for the link to the video. Doug has blogged the same thing previously, and I’ve covered that on here somewhere. Besides his resorting to a creed rather than Scripture, and his minimising of the universal claim of the New Covenant, what it boils down to is that he thinks baptism has little to do with legal witness and everything to do with hereditary entitlement, so like all paedobaptists he’s off the biblical map on this issue. The only reason these gents have to keep trying to make their system work is the fact that it doesn’t and never will. It’s a bar stool with two legs.
