Well, now the hair on the back of my neck is standing up. I was tending for a mason, doing chimney work yesterday, and the topic of killing/wars came up. We discussed at length the “human shield” idea in different terms. Martyrdom has been a pressing concern on my heart for sometime. Polycarp’s testimony offers some hope I suppose, with his sense of peace and words given by the Spirit.

Yes, each Babylon is a bit different in nature because they are part of a transformational sacrificial process (priestly, kingly, prophetic). The first was Noahic/Abrahamic, the second Abrahamic/Davidic, the third Davidic/Christian. Each is the direct result of the unfaithfulness of God’s people, and each results in a transition for God’s people to greater holiness and then greater authority.

Is the problem that PL and JR are using the term “Babel” in a different way than how the bible, and especially Revelation, uses it?

When I think of “the whore of Babylon” (say it like this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bjdWuK-I4qQ about 18 seconds in I think of the apostate jews, especially the pharisees of first century, not an empire.

Maybe they’re referring to the original Babel/Babylon which perhaps is a different thing altogether because that took place before God separated out Israel from the other nations… not sure

Good question, Dave. The first ire will always be from those within. It will split and purify the Church, which will then have a witness to the world, which will bring ire from without.
