We’ve looked at the three-level Tabernacle structure in Genesis 19. That’s the rooms, and their doors, so what about the furniture?

The events follow the Bible Matrix, so an identification of how each step in the story fulfills the Creation Week might shed some light on the point of the details that the Spirit has included for us. And identifying how each step fulfills the Festal Calendar might also shed some light on the motivations of Lot and his daughters. The prefigurements of events nearly half a millennium in their future are breathtaking.

Day 1: Creation – The Angels, as two legal “spies” come to Sodom in the evening as Holy Light. Lot offers them rest (Sabbath) overnight. There is evening and there is morning. In the Tabernacle, this is the ARK OF THE COVENANT, which contained the two tablets of witness, hidden from the eyes of sinful men.

Day 2: Division – The Angels make as if they will spend the night in the open (a serpentine deception often appears at this “Exodus” step) but Lot insists they enter his house. He bakes them unleavened Passover bread — the symbol of historical discontinuity. In the Tabernacle, this is the installation of the darkening VEIL, the firmament.

Day 3: Ascension – This step is the Covenant Firstfruits, the blameless lamb. It concerns the promise to be fulfilled if the Covenant Ethics are obeyed. Sometimes this is a betrothal. The act of sex also follows the pattern, where it is the Adam overshadowing the Eve. In that case, Ascension is also an erection.

In the Tabernacle this is the four-horned BRONZE ALTAR, and the people from every quarter surround the house. In this liturgical structure, the men call on Lot to send the angels out as “living sacrifices.” (I’m sorry if you think this is crazy but I’ve seen so much of this stuff that it’s fairly obvious. And it’s often the reason for the scant descriptive details we are given!)

Ascension is also the TABLE OF FACEBREAD, where the holy man breaks the seals on the scroll and speaks the words of God, opening the mystery. Here, the mediator, the “lamb standing,” is Lot, who gives these sinners their last sermon. The sermon itself follows the pattern of the Feasts (included here for the naysayers):

Sabbath/Genesis – So Lot went out to them through the doorway,

Passover/Exodus – shut the door behind him, and said,

Firstfruits/Leviticus – “Please, my brethren, do not do so wickedly!

Pentecost/Numbers – See now, I have two daughters who have not known a man;

Trumpets/Deuteronomy – please, let me bring them out to you, and you may do to them as you wish;

Atonement (Coverings)/Joshua – only do nothing to these men,

Booths (Shelter)/Judges – since this is the reason they have come under the shadow of my roof.”

Notice that the three “Ethics” steps move from the Covenant Head (in this case, uncircumcised ones, in every sense) through the “threshing floor” to the Covenant Body as two witnesses. More on that later. Also, Pentecost corresponds to the Lampstand, and Lot begs them to “see.”

It should be obvious, but the fact that this passage, and this speech, follow patterns not laid down (or not completed) until the time of Moses and Joshua are evidences for inspiration that are extremely difficult to explain away.

Day 4: Testing – This step is the turning point in the structure. The Word has been given, now it will be opened. Will it return void? As “Light” was offered at Testing in Lot’s sermon (a microcosm of the whole passage), so here their rejection of that Light results in blindness. The people of Sodom had tasted the goodness of the Lord and been “enlightened,” but would now be given a strong delusion. As it was at the first Pentecost, these men loved darkness, so they received darkness.

The correspondence to Day 4 here is the governing lights. The angels are the obvious “heavenly lights,” but Lot had also set himself up as a judge in Sodom, and his righteous judgment was rejected. Behind every godly testimony, whether it is accepted or rejected, are the “LAMPSTAND” eyes of the Spirit of God.

Day 5: Maturity – Now we have the Trumpets. The angels give their warning to Lot and Lot repeats it to his “swarms” (which is what Deuteronomy, the fifth book, is all about). Because his daughters were almost put on centre stage, we often overlook the fact that Lot also had sons and sons-in-law (or potential sons-in-law) in Sodom. [1] Their testimony of “the outcry against them” in this structure corresponds to the witnesses against Cain. The INCENSE ALTAR is the prayers of the saints ascending to heaven for vengeance and redemption. It is the savor of life to some and the smell of death to others. (In Revelation this is presented as two “Trumpets” armies: the fragrant saints under the Altar of God and the locustine Judaizers who smell of sulphur from the Altar of the Abyss).

This step often includes a three-level house, but a house of life instead of a house of death. The Garden-Land-World architecture described in the previous post is here reversed: City-Plains-Mountains. It is the ascension of the sacrificial Covenant Body.

Of the sacrificial rite, James Jordan says, “the blood goes up and the Spirit comes down.” [2] At Ascension, the blood is the exposure of righteous Lot. At Testing it was the Blindness of the Spirit. But that’s the Covenant Head. The judgment was local, as it was at Pentecost. At Maturity it is the Ascension of the Covenant Body, and the fire to fall was not Pentecostal “Head-Fire” but AD70 “Body Fire.” As with water, salt and wine, a little bit of fire is a Covenant blessing, and a lot of fire is a Covenant curse. The Bible Matrix demonstrates the incredible correspondences in these events, and the apostles were clearly in on it. Their mysterious “hermeneutic,” I believe, was simply this matrix, a systematic typology.

Lot hesitates, but the angels, who between them have four hands, take one person in each hand. Hands are “five-fold” and military, and often appear at this step. Ten fingers are the Law of God in human flesh. The key word here is “mercy.” It is all grace.

Notice that, like Israel later on, Lot did not fully obey the command of the Lord, which led to “Canaanite,” or “Land,” immorality. Yet righteous Lot’s presence in the city of Zoar protected it as it had protected Sodom. Lot’s wisdom was a sacramental dose of salt. Which brings us to…

Day 6: Conquest – Lot, standing in for the HIGH PRIEST in this structure of events, “passes through” with his two “goat” virgin daughters (MEDIATING ANIMALS) on this Day of Atonement. But his wife becomes a “white stone,” a pillar of salt. She is the microcosm of Sodom, a barren woman. Somehow, she is the sign that the offering for sin has been accepted. Israel set up two pillars of stone when they entered Canaan, and whitewashed them. The correspondences are not exact, so this still requires some thought, but the underlying idea is a perpetual memorial to the event. In the Revelation, the “virgin daughters” are the saints who persevered, and the woman who looked back is Herod’s Judaism, a magnificent edifice covered in … white stone. Notice the reversal: the women who were offered for sin and got “passed over” came through clean, and the woman who did not speak out became the barren “harlot.”

Day 7: Glorification – Now that he had lost everything, instead of heading for the mountains to be reunited with the house of Abraham, Lot lives in a cave. Typologically, he has found a covering in the tomb but no resurrection life. The final stage of the structure involves Covenant Succession, [3] and this is the concern of Lot’s daughters. Instead of the wine and strong drink of Tabernacles, a God-fest thrown by God’s people for the godless, here the “ministry” is incestuous. Instead of becoming a spring of living water, the offspring is the peoples of Ammon and Moab. These two women had lost their husbands, and their father had lost his wife. I think they get a worse rap than they deserve. Their motives were pure under the circumstances, but, like Abraham with Hagar, they unrighteously sought to answer their own prayers rather than waiting patiently for God’s. Theirs was not the sin of Sodom but the sin of Lot. They learned this “Covenant-impatience” from their father, and the result was that their descendents failed to enter into God’s REST.

The Tabernacle layout to the Bible narratives is like the Globe Theatre to Shakespeare. [1] If we understand the correspondences we can get the “architectural” relationships worked out. The same blueprint appears again and again, and it explains the motivation of “righteous Lot” in the offering of his daughters to the men of Sodom.

……………4
……….5
…..6
7

and yet Day 5 fills the space created on Day 2:

Forming the spaces
1
…..2
……….3

Filling the spaces
4
…..5
……….6

Stanza 1

As with Day 3, it contains 2 stanzas (or cycles). What is really surprising is that I can only get this first stanza to fit the Creation pattern if I run it BACKWARDS. Sure, the water of 2 and 6 is still mirrored, and the Lord is at 1 and 7, but 3 and 5 are very different.

Then God said, (Day of the Lord)
…..“Let the waters abound (Laver – Mediators)
……….with an abundance
……….of living creatures, (Incense – Swarms/Clouds)
……………and let birds fly (Lampstand – Heavenly Rulers)
……….above the [Land] (Altar – Land above Gentile Sea)
……….across the face (Table of Facebread – Grain and Fruit)*
…..of the firmament (Veil – Firmament)
of the heavens.” (Ark – In the beginning)

*Notice that the Altar and Land are a self-contained unit, and so their order is not swapped, even though the whole process runs backwards. The plants still follow the ascension of the Land as glorified Adamic soil.

Now, the Creation pattern only runs backwards when God is deconstructing the world (or its microcosmic tent or Temple). But we are in the brief time before sin entered through Adam. What is going on here?

If you look carefully, you can see that the stanza works its way up from the deep, through the fish, out of the water to the birds, up to the sky and then into heaven. Day 5 is Step 5, and Step 5 is the resurrection of the body. It seems that the Author is communicating resurrection as both creating something new, and also a turning back of time.

Step 3 is the Ascension of the Covenant Head to receive the two stone witnesses of the Law. Step 5 is those stone Laws written on two tablets of flesh, the Covenant Body as Two Witnesses. The Law is written on resurrected hearts, and unlike the silent Head (silent as a Lamb), they speak and sing. It is the difference between Sinai and Deuteronomy.

This step is also military; it is ten plagues, or two witnesses marching 5 abreast. It is ten backward steps of the scorching sun of Day 4 on the stairway of Ahaz as a witness to the promise of healing:

(2 Kings 2:8-11)

(Creation – Day 1)
Hezekiah had asked Isaiah,

…..(Division – Day 2)**
…..“What will be the sign that the LORD will heal me

……….(Ascension – Day 3)
……….and that I will go up to the temple of the LORD
……….on the third day from now?”

……………(Testing – Day 4 – Pentecost – Law opened)
……………Isaiah answered,
………………..“This is the LORD’s sign
…………………….to you
………………..that the LORD will do
……………what he has promised:

……….(Maturity – Day 5 – Two Witnesses)
……….Shall the shadow go forward ten steps,
……….or shall it go back ten steps?”

…..(Conquest – Day 6 – Day of Coverings, open Veil
…..Man divides morning and evening at Atonement)
…..“It is a simple matter for the shadow to go forward ten steps,”
…..said Hezekiah. “Rather, have it go back ten steps.”

(Glorification – Day 7 – Rest and Shelter)
Then the prophet Isaiah
…..called upon the LORD,
……….and the LORD
……………made the shadow (death defeated)
……….go back the ten steps (Day 5)
…..it had gone down
on the stairway of Ahaz.

**Division is Sanctification, a setting apart of God’s man.

Stanza 2

So God created great sea creatures (Genesis)***
…..and every living thing that moves, (Exodus)
……….(Land rulers and Sea rulers divided – Leviticus)
……….with which the waters abounded,
………. according to their kind,
……….and every winged bird
………. according to its kind.
………………..(Numbers – Judgment of Body)
………………..And God saw that [it was] good.
……………(Deuteronomy – Blessings/Curses upon Body)
……………And God blessed them, saying,
……………“Be fruitful and multiply,
…..(Joshua – a new body of Jew and Gentile)
…..and fill the waters in the seas,
…..and let birds multiply on the [Land].”
(Judges – rulers in the Land)
So the evening and the morning were the fifth day.

***Only three created things are described as wonderful: the heavens and earth, the great sea creatures, and Man. Here, the sea creatures are “at the head” of the stanza as wonderful.

I can only surmise that Day 5 has two stanzas because the first forms the “Bridal” Covenant Body and the second fills it, which is exactly what we see in Ezekiel 37, just before the Conquest of Haman and Persia in Ezekiel 38 and 39. So Day 5 is a microcosm of the entire week as a whole, and also in its two parts. Wheels within wheels indeed.

Throughout the Bible, there are good swarms and bad swarms, good armies and bad armies, fragrant smoke and sulphur, at “Day 5.” One is the offspring of the Incense Altar, and the other is the offspring of the Altar of the Abyss. In Revelation, the Judaizers are described as this offspring, a smoke from the abyss that turns into locusts that devour. But what does Jesus do later in the book for the martyred Firstfruits church? He turns back time for the faithful, the “two witnesses” church which is also an army from the east (literally, from the Sunrise). In fact, for all those who died at the hands of Cainites under the Old Covenant, Jesus restored the years that the locust had eaten. He brought about The End of Shadows.

But these evil people did believe. And even when you saw what they did, you still would not change your minds and believe.” (Matthew 21:31-32)

James Jordan teaches you to observe the universals in Scripture. I believe one of the most important is the Totus Christus pattern, head and body, and its counterfeits and distortions.

As mentioned around here a couple times (sorry, a couple of times. I’ve been reading too many Americans), the curse upon Adam concerned his head, and his responsibility to provide for and protect the body. The curse upon Eve concerned her body, her role in producing offspring. Both curses were a limited form of barrenness.

But what of the relationship between head and body? James Jordan writes:

Continuing from New Covenant Virility – 2

GLORIFICATION: (Tabernacles feast, marriage, children, rest)

Wow. This last bit really rubs in the kind of offspring (fruit) Israel gave God. It is the seventh stanza of this section, yet in itself it has seven stanzas. Each section submits itself to the common themes in Glorification, yet each section reiterates one step the sevenfold pattern. Tabernacles was the big feast, so in this final ascerbic prophecy, the prophet turns the annual Feasts into curses. [1] What sublime poetry is Isaiah.

Tabernacles is the Feasts of Booths. It is God’s people reaching maturity as a great tree and sheltering the nations. The cycle began with dry trees (eunuchs, etc.) being made fruitful. Here, God lays the ax to the root of the old tree.

But come here, (Into the Light)
……….You offspring of the adulterer and the harlot!
……….(False Marriage Covenant)
Wilderness references/false hope/no fear of God
God refrained from disciplining Israel immediately, unlike His strategy in Numbers. He expected greater maturity but did not see it. Israel herself is both the harlot and the serpent here.

You have loved their bed, where you saw [their] nudity.
…..You went to the king with ointment,
…..and increased your perfumes;
……….You sent your messengers far off,
……….and [even] descended to Sheol.
……………You are wearied in the length of your way;
……………Yet you did not say, ‘There is no hope.’
……….You have found the life of your hand;
……….Therefore you were not grieved. [4]
…..And of whom have you been afraid, or feared,
…..That you have lied and not remembered Me,
…..Nor taken [it] to your heart?
Is it not because I have held My peace
from of old that you do not fear Me?

Step 5, Maturity, is also Deuteronomy, a new generation. It was the next generation which returned to repossess Canaan. Here, there is a turning point, another reference to the restoration, the resurrection of Israel as an army of priests rising from the Testing fire, refined as gold and leaving their idols behind.

MATURITY (Un-Trumpets)
Multitudes, Clouds (of dust), Riches (works, inheritance)

I will declare your righteousness and your works,
For they will not profit you.
…..When you cry out, Let your collection [of idols] deliver you.
……….But the wind will carry them all away,
……………A breath [Spirit] will take [them.]
……….But he who puts his trust in Me
…..shall possess the land,
And shall inherit My holy mountain.”

CONQUEST (Atonement)
Passing through the veil/Sins covered/Spiritual resurrection/A remnant delivered

And one shall say, “Heap it up! Heap it up!
…..Prepare the way, Take the stumbling block
…..out of the way of My people.”
……….For thus says the High and Lofty One
……….Who inhabits eternity, whose name is Holy:
……………“I dwell in the high and holy place,
……………With him [who] has a contrite and humble spirit,
……….To revive the spirit of the humble,
……….And to revive the heart of the contrite ones.
…..For I will not contend forever, Nor will I always be angry;
For the spirit would fail before Me, And the souls I have made.

GLORIFICATION (New Booths)
Tabernacles, like our bodies, decay and pass away. They need resurrection.
Here, the Lord builds a New Covenant body for His people. It is the Temple seen by Ezekiel, made of Jew and Gentile flesh together, with all the Jews as a holy priesthood. Tabernacles concerns Jews and Gentiles, those far and those near.

Rest, peace and healing and “resurrection” unity come to the repentant.

They are delivered under the hand of Cyrus, a conqueror greater than David.
They receive peace under the hand of Darius/Ahasuerus, a bridegroom greater than Solomon. This new marriage of heaven and earth brings many children.

The Restoration Covenant was a kind of halfway house to the New Covenant.

But no rest for the wicked. They are the dirt in the Laver, the offscouring of Israel’s new baptism. They are the bodies lost in the Babylonian flood.

For the iniquity of his covetousness
I was angry and struck him; (Ark-Law)
…..I hid and was angry, (Veil)
……….And he went on backsliding in the way of his heart. (Altar)
……………I have seen his ways, and will heal him; (Lampstand)
……………I will also lead him, and restore comforts
……………to him and to his mourners.
……….I create the fruit of the lips: (Incense/Elders/Law repeated)
……….Peace, peace to the far off and to the near,”
……….Says the LORD, “And I will heal him.”
…..But the wicked are like the troubled sea, when it cannot rest,
…..Whose waters cast up mire and dirt. (Laver)
“There is no peace,” says my God, “for the wicked.” (Shekinah/Rest)

The first festivals above were process of death and resurrection. Israel was sacrificed and rose from the grave. The old Tabernacle was un-covered and torn down, its carcass falling in the wilderness under the Law of God. Then the sheep and goats, the righteous and the wicked, were separated. Instead of a new year, the final feast, a restored Tabernacles, brought another 500 years of Temple worship and a mind-blowing influence among the Gentiles. Synagogues were built throughout the empire, and seed was sown for the coming of the Messiah—from India to Ethiopia.

[2] As discussed in God’s Gamble, the coming of the Spirit was prefigured in the Urim and Thummim and the lot. The lot as a judgment falls here at Pentecost. But the “governing lights” here are Israel’s false gods. So, what spirit was this? The spirit given to Saul.
[3] Remembrance refers to memorials of Covenant.
[4] Maturity often has a motif of the resurrection body. Israel here seems to have manufactured their own blessed hope. Hands, five fingers, are also a military symbol.

Picture is the entry to the Black Lodge in Twin Peaks. It is the Un-holy of un-holies. I probably wouldn’t recommend watching it. Kinda wished I hadn’t all those years ago. Notice the Un-laver, a pool of burnt engine oil, and a circle of sycamore trees. Our culture has a hard time thinking outside the Biblical square.

Adam couldn’t face God. Cain’s face fell. Moses’ face shone with reflected light when he returned from the mountain of God. Bezalel and Aholiab constructed the Table of Facebread, which corresponded in the cherubim to the Face Of The Man. David and his men ate the facebread. Saul feared Goliath, but David’s face was red, literally “filled with blood,” before he bloodied Goliath’s face and the usurper fell facedown. [1]

What is interesting is that all these and other references to “the face” appear at exactly the same position in the Matrix structure (Ascension). It refers to a worthy Adam, someone who can face God. Throughout the Bible we have Cains and Abels. All the Cains usurp the Abels through oppression and bloodshed.

The book of Daniel, as a unit, follows the pattern. At Ascension, the Herods take control and throw the stars (godly priesthood) down. But by the end of the book, new godly rulers have taken possession of the kingdom and they shine like stars. As Jesus predicted, the first century fake sun, moon and stars were cast down, and the Herods were deposed.

So, what is the face of the deep in Genesis 1? The face reference is again at Ascension.

Creation In the beginning (at the head) (Ark)
…..Division God created the heavens and the earth. (Veil)
……….Ascension The earth was without form, and empty;
……….(Bronze Altar)
……….and darkness was on the face of the deep.
……….(Table of Facebread)
……….And the Spirit of God was hovering
……….over the face of the waters.

What happened when Jesus rose out of the Jordan as a new mediatorial “Land”? He was anointed by the Father as the Man who could face God.

This process is also the pattern of sacrifice. So far, God has taken the sacrifice (Creation), torn it in two (Division), placed it as “facebread” on the empty Altar (Ascension). Then, He puts fire on the Altar.

……………Testing Then God said, “Let there be light”;
……………and there was light.
……………(Lampstand)
……….Maturity And God saw the light,
……….that it was good;
……….(Incense)

At Maturity, in later patterns, we often find the two witnesses. They symbolise the faithful church. They are the body. It is plural. It is smoke. The smoke is a witness in God’s nostrils. It is a pleasing aroma or it is a stench. In later references, we find both, and they are (as far as I have looked) always at this point. When two or three witnesses are gathered together, there is Yahweh in the midst. It is a legal process. We see this when Jesus is flanked by Moses and Elijah, the Law and the Prophets who are witnesses against unbelieving Judah. In Revelation, the firstfruits church is pictured, among other things, as two legal witnesses having exactly the powers of Moses and Elijah. They are slain as sacrifices and ascend to heaven as smoke, a pleasing aroma.

…..Conquest and God divided
…..the light from the darkness.
…..(Mediator)

Here is the Day of Atonement. The High Priest takes the Urim and Thummim, a white stone and a black stone. He uses them to choose which goat will ascend to God, and which goat will descend to the abyss. This is the separation of the Covenant body under the Covenant sanctions. At Ascension, it is a face-off between Aaron and Korah, David and Goliath. Here, it is about their sons, the warrior bride.

So, this division between day and night, evening and morning, corresponds to the Day of Atonement, when God renews the Covenant for another year for the sake of the Body. The evening is the Old Covenant, the Lunar (nighttime) festivals. The morning is the New Covenant.

These were contained all along on the bosom of the Man Who Could Face God, the High Priest. At Atonement, the Facebread-Man is vindicated. He chooses a faithful bride, and the harlot is expelled for another year.

Glorification God called the light Day,
and the darkness He called Night.
So the evening and the morning
were the first day.
(Shekinah)

At Glorification, we always find Judges (the seventh book) and judgment. It is the throne of Solomon and his bride. Even when Adam could not face God and he and his wife hid themselves, God still asked him to judge wisely. He asked Adam to call what he had done “Night.” Adam failed again. He called good “evil” and evil “good.”

Here, God judges His work. It is not yet “very good,” because it is not yet mature. Only God is good. Jesus was not “very good” until He had a Covenant body, until He was condemned under the Pentecostal fire of the Law and resurrected as body of fragrant smoke that could pass-through Atonement doors. Even He was perfected by suffering.

The darkness is about forming (Moses); the light is about filling (Christ). Only after this first-day heptamerous pattern is expanded into a full week will it be “very good” because the world will be formed and filled.

God then forms and fills Adam (which is described separately in Genesis 2 because it follows this pattern independently of the greater, not because it is a myth, despite what over-educated, yellow-bellied theologues tell us), and then He forms Eve, a Covenant body, as the filling of Adam.

So, what is the face of the deep? It is the face of Goliath. It is Adamic meat, uncut by the sword of the Word (uncircumcised) and without the Spirit.

As mentioned in Deus Ex Machina, in Revelation 5, John wept because the deep, the Gentile abyss, was once again ready to sweep across the disobedient Covenant people (the Land), and there was no one worthy to face God.

Until John saw the missing table, the Lamb. As New Covenant Head, Jesus opened the New Covenant scroll, and there was Pentecostal Light. Only those in the ark, in Christ, survived the flood of Rome (Daniel 9:26) that closed the Old Covenant scroll.

As long as Jesus stands before God, that New Covenant scroll remains open. In Him, we cannot lose face.

and the Usefulness of the Blood of Abel

“…you have come… to the blood of sprinkling that speaks [more useful, more serviceable, more advantageous] things than [that of] Abel.” Hebrews 12:22-24

In Biblical Horizons newsletter 203, James Jordan argues that since Cain’s “exodus” to build a city occurred around 130 years after the Fall, he was publicly humiliated before thousands. He would have been accompanied by at least 1000 people, so he didn’t build the city on his own.

This means that Adam, like Solomon, was father to a divided kingdom. 1 Kings presents Solomon as a new Adam, even down to his naming of animals in his biological studies. Cain was like Jeroboam, shown mercy, given a chance, but who then caused Israel to sin.

What does Genesis give us after this? We have Adam as a failed Moses, Cain in a corrupt exodus. What follows after the murder of Abel is the construction of a false Tabernacle in the wilderness. The list of the talented is a corrupt artisans guild. It is the Aholiab and Bezalel from hell. (No wonder the Freemason password is Tubal-Cain.) [1]

Their father, Lamech, was a murderer behind a pretence of justice. The authority to execute murderers was not given by God until He gave it to Noah. Lamech took vengeance into his own hands and sang it as liturgy at the Altar of the Abyss. Cain’s rage was institutionalised. It reached full term in Genesis 6, with intermarriage between the two kingdoms.[2] A violent society was the outcome of innocent blood shed at the Altar.

Why did the blood of Christ then speak of greater things than the blood of Abel, crying as a witness [martyr] from the ground? Abel’s blood was not avenged until the flood. The author of Hebrews was calling his readers to be courageous and reassuring them that the blood of the martyrs would be avenged. Just like Abel, vengeance came like a flood. In fact, vengeance for the blood of all the martyrs from Abel onwards fell upon that generation. As men were (idolatrously) marrying and giving in marriage, with murderous wives like Herodias, an Athaliah and a Jezebel, the false Tabernacle was washed away in a sudden destruction.[3]

I saw in my dream, that the Interpreter took Christian by the hand again, and led him into a very dark room, where there sat a man in an iron cage. Now the man seemed very sad. He sat with his eyes looking down to the ground, and his hands folded together, and he sighed as if his heart would break.

Then said Christian, “Who is this?”

“Talk with him and see,” said the Interpreter.

“What used you to be?” asked Christian.

“I was once a flourishing professor, both in my own eyes, and also in the eyes of others,” answered the man. “I was on my way, as I thought, to the Celestial City and I was confident that I would get there.”

“But what did you do to bring yourself to this condition?” Christian asked.

“I failed to keep watch,” the man replied. “I followed the pleasures of this world, which promised me all manner of delights. But they proved to be an empty bubble. And now I am shut up in this iron cage—a man of despair who can’t get out.”

No further explanations were given. No one said who put him there. But the Interpreter whispered to Christian:

“Bear well in mind what you have seen.” [1]

. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

Another thought related to the ideas in Behind Closed Doors.

The whole aim of the construction process, whether in sex, foetal development, education, business, art, music, family or state government, is the ultimate revelation of a mature glory. We are given the opportunity to create, and that involves certain God-given freedoms. If the freedoms are abused, what we construct for ourselves is a cage. Lust is a cage. A dysfunctional family or state is a cage. Enforced egalitarian socio-economics is a cage. Undisciplined children are a cage.

Jesus laid down His life for this world, and the freedoms of western culture have been a direct outcome. In its final stages, we have rebelliously inverted each of these freedoms (including the economic ones) and turned both our Christian protection (including our God-given wealth) and Christian mandate into a cage. Ancient Israel did the same. Why does this inversion process seem such a logical path for fallen human nature?

A ‘world model’ develops with God’s throne at the top and the Abyss at the bottom, the place furthest from the throne. The architecture of the Tabernacle follows this model, laid out upon the ground.

When the priesthood – the Land-mediators – disobeyed God, the Abyss was dredged up to cover the Land (holy place). We see this first in the flood, and later in the invasions of Assyria, Babylon and Rome.

The Valley of Hinnom became a symbol of the ‘Abyss’ below the true mountain of God. As an evil twin of the holy place, it was an ‘Adamic’ clay pit with no glorious metal. It was also the place where Judah sacrificed their infants to false gods. It was counterfeit worship in the tabernacle of hell, and the Lord said He would fill it with their bodies. Their dark ‘table of showbread’ became a snare. [Read Jeremiah 19]

After the Babylonian captivity, Zechariah saw the church in “the deep” (often translated valley or glen). A new Land-altar was rising out of the ‘waters’ – a new mountain of God, with a new Eden-temple to mediate for the world.
TAOTA
