Comments:

Come and see the place where he lay.

  • The Holy of Holies was a picture of this tomb. To approach it you had to a) be male, b) present blood, c) be the High Priest. But that was now fulfilled. These women could approach without fear. The Law was satisfied. Adam made the Sanctuary safe.
  • You may remember Jesus’ comment that He had nowhere to lay His head. And also His comment to the disciples early in John for them to “come and see” where He was staying. This is the God of a New Covenant, one who invites all into His house.

Then go quickly and tell his disciples…

  • The New Covenant is about the spoken witness of the body of Christ, the bride. It is fitting that women were the first to witness of, and witness to, the resurrection of the body.

So the women hurried away from the tomb, afraid yet filled with joy, and ran to tell his disciples.

  • These details seem unimportant, but the only reason they saw Jesus is because they obeyed the Word. As in Revelation, where John hears the voice and then sees Jesus, only those who are obedient to the gospel will see Him face to face.
  • Notice that “afraid” is the forming (humbling) of the Old Covenant Law (bread), and “joy” is the the filling of the New Covenant Spirit (wine). Two angels with a flaming sword administered the final stage of the Sanctions against Adam. But here, the lightning angel administered an invitation to carry the sword from the Garden into the Land.

Suddenly Jesus met them. “Greetings,” he said. They came to him, clasped his feet and worshiped him.

  • The old Tabernacle is silent as a lamb (Ascension), but the New Tabernacle speaks (Maturity). The movement is from external to internal Law.
  • There is a connection between the feet of Jesus and the bride. This is not because she is His doormat. Only washed, clean feet are able to stand on holy ground, on the crystal sea, on the springs of Eden. If you are where Jesus is, you are on holy ground. Even if you are a prostitute (a Covenant breaker), you are safe. They “dry His serpent-crushing feet” with their hair.
  • Faithful Adam made the sanctuary safe by casting out the serpent. Jesus is the faithful gardener. The women are on the Laver, made of mirrors, and at Booths they will be Edenic rivers, their testimony the mother of all the New Covenant living.

Then Jesus said to them, “Do not be afraid. Go and tell my brothers to go to Galilee; there they will see me.”

  • Jesus repeats the command of the angel. The women have had the legal (well, graceful) testimony of two witnesses, and they will give the testimony of two witnesses.
  • Now it was the disciples would have to obey the Word of a “dead man” before they would see Him.
